I’m not selling the CoUNTrY tRAVELLER

I arrived in Ushuaia about a week ago and I’ve just sobered up. Getting from Rio Grande to Tohuin was a bit unmemorable. I think I just wanted to get to my destination and I never really stopped to look around. I treated myself to a cabana that night. The geography between Tohuin and Ushuaia was pretty spectacular though. It was like being back on the west coast of Scotland but with a greater sense of gravity. Riding through these towering jagged mountains was – forgive me – awesome. 20kms before Ushuaia I was riding under a ski slope, there was a yell from the chair lift, “You’ve nearly made it man!” This turned out to be Markus, a Swiss rider who had arrived a week previous to me. He had cycled from Mexico. When I arrived at the hostel I was delighted to see another touring bike caked in dry mud, minutes later Markus arrived in from his day snowboarding. Instantly I felt in tune with him and I made a very good friend. The road in Ushuaia continues on to the national park and we decided to cycle the last 30kms or so together. A crazy Brazilian guy joined us but we had to leave him for dust. Markus left this morning along with lots of other good people that I've enjoyed the company of. So what am I going to do here now? I think Spanish lessons first then art work. I feel quite comfortable to make some artwork in this hostel (it has a bar). Went skiing yesterday I might try a bit more of that. But I’m taking it easy for a while.

Hi Lee
Back to watching your trip again as we have been on holiday for the last two weeks, think our caravan is much more cozy than your tent, but your trip is much more interesting. Look after yourself! Luv Cathy and Doug
