Drooned rat

I went for a wee visit to Chiloe Island and got absolutely sodden. I looked on google earth for some camping spots before I left. I found a nice one just before Ancud. I was in no hurry so I dondled my way to Pargua where the ferry left for Chiloe. Along the way couldn’t help but notice everywhere was flooded from the previous nights torrential downpour. So I hoped I was over the worst of the rain, couldn't have been more wrong. I arrived at the ferry and it was only 1500 pesos for my bicileta and me. Some chap insisted on taking a photo of me on my bike so I gave in and let him. It was dark by the time I arrived at the google earth spotted campsite. I was relieved to have found it, right beside the ocean as the waves were rumbling up on the shore.

The next morning the waves were crashing up against the shore. Since I was in no rush to go anywhere I stayed in the tent most of the morning while it was pissing down all around me. Eventually I got packed up and hit the town of Ancud. The rain was so bad it had knocked out all the power in the town. As far as I could gather the kids in the local high school had been sent home early and ended up rioting in the streets, annoying the Carabineros (police). Quite funny really as all the locals laughed while the kids got chased down the street. The rain didn't let off so I got some lunch and headed back towards the ferry. I decided to camp up near the ferry so I could head back to Puerto Montt in the first thing in the morning and get back to the cozy hostel. I camped a mile or two past the ferry, down a dirt track towards the sea. It was quiet and plenty wildlife about. Luckily the rain had eased off for a wee while.

Next day was windy and very wet again. Oh well, just had to think of the warm hostel I was only a few hours from where I could dry out.
