No entrar

I went out on the bike today. I reckon it’s the best way to see places in such a short time. Folk tend to ride on the pavement here dodging in and out of pedestrians and what's more nobody seems to mind. Lucky really, since there's one-way traffic systems all throughout the city. I got on the roads for quite a while today, getting used to riding on the right hand side. Good day for it, being Sunday 'twas a bit quieter than normal.
I found myself heading out of town going northwest around the big hill in Santiago, Cerro San Cristobal. I was attracted to some colourful settlements heading up the hill that turned into a bit of a shantytown. A nice atmosphere all the same, with sounds of reggae blasting out sheds on top of sheds and drumming practice and the smell of barbecued meat. I got to the top of the tarmac and there was a dirt track that seemed to head down and around the hill so I followed it. Then I came across a blockade with "no entrar" graffiti on it - but there's mountain bike tracks going past it. Looking beyond that I caught site of a roof of some sort that was made of the garbage that was lying about of which there was plenty. I noticed there were horses tied to trees all about. Anyway not only did I decided not to carry on when I had seen no enter I also thought I heard a voice in Spanish shouted in the tone of "oy don't go in there". Yes so I headed back into town. I managed to get a good panoramic view of the west side of Santiago.
